Reflections from the Ether

This song was originally written to be the last in a series of songs (and it may still be some day).  The story is told from the perspective of a person who dies and Reflections from the Ether takes place in the nanoseconds after death and whatever is left of the character fades into whatever comes next.  As that is happening, this is his or her advice back to the world that is being left behind.  While clearly a heavy topic and a sad theme, it concludes the story of the songs that preceded it is the end of the story.

Reflections from the Ether

by Mock Defense

The end of time is so certain
To those who sell the message
They may be right or wrong
But you will never know

Time goes by
Both fast and slow
The more you learn

The less you’ll know
Wagers are less valuable
The further out in time you go
But prophecies are easy
In the here and now

Time goes by
Both fast and slow
The more you learn
The less you’ll know

Time goes by
Both fast and slow
The more you learn
The less you’ll know

You will have to deal with reality
Which you spend so much to avoid
As you measure time and space
In increments of confusion

But the truth is
That there is no real ending
Everything just fades away
